Why Are INFJs and INFPs So Self-Conscious About Their Creative Work?

INFJ personality types and INFP personality types are two types within the MBTI personality type system that tend to be the most self-conscious. The extreme degree of self-consciousness that these two types experience affects them deeply, and can often cause them to suppress their creative urges. This is because the act of being creative can feel like an invitation for others to attack and criticize their creative efforts, and the INFJ personality type and INFP personality type live in fear of being judged.

INFJ personality types and INFP personality types will frequently use people-pleasing as a survival tactic with others in order to fly under the radar and stay invisible, because invisibility feels like it equals safety. However, when we choose to remain invisible, and constantly put others’ needs before our own in the interest of people-pleasing, we end up in a prison of our own making. We feel trapped by our own fears, and powerless to give voice to the creative magic inside of us that so desperately wants to break free.

The only way to release the fear of judgment and conquer our extreme self-consciousness about our creative work is to build inner resilience. Inner resilience is essential if we are serious about following our creative dreams, because if we ever want to put our work out there, we will have to learn how to withstand the projections of other people, which are an unavoidable challenge for anyone who shares their creativity with the world.

I talk more about this in the video below:

I’m teaching a new class focusing on deep creativity for INFJ and INFP personality types and we’ll be learning all about how excessive self-consciousness affects our creative life and more. This new class is called “Creative Alchemy” and it begins on Wed Feb 28 and runs for three weeks.

I received a lot of requests to teach a class on the alchemical process of creativity for intuitive types, and so this one has been a long time coming and I’m very excited to see where it leads us. Every one of my classes is truly an experience, and I expect this one will be intense.
