DIRECTED WRITING SESSION SCHEDULE
DIRECTED WRITING SESSION 1:
SATURDAY, APR 1
3:00 – 4:30 PM EST
***Lauren will provide a suggested focus for writing work during Directed Writing Sessions, but if that focus doesn’t apply, students are encouraged to choose their own***
GIVING YOURSELF PERMISSION
In this Directed Writing Session, we will be choosing a section of our writing project that we know we want or need to write about, but that we also haven’t yet been able to give ourselves permission to write about.
Lauren will provide a guided visualization to create a container of trust and safety for writers as we do this work together.
DIRECTED WRITING SESSION 2:
SATURDAY, APR 8
3:00 – 4:30 PM EST
PERFECTIONISM
In this Directed Writing Session, we’ll be choosing a section of our writing project that we have been too afraid to tackle because we fear we might “ruin it” or not be up to the task of working with it.
Lauren will provide a guided visualization to create a container that supports creative experimentation, and soothes anxiety about uncertainty for writers, as we do this work together.
DIRECTED WRITING SESSION 3:
SATURDAY, APR 15
3:00 – 4:30 PM EST
STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
In this Directed Writing Session, we’ll be choosing a section of our writing project that feels very “easy” to us, and another section that feels very “hard,” and observing what happens when we work with both.
Lauren will provide a guided visualization to create a container that supports observation and acceptance, and also taps into our natural curiosity, as we do this work together.
DIRECTED WRITING SESSION 4:
SATURDAY, APR 22
3:00 – 4:30 PM EST
CONSISTENCY
In this Directed Writing Session, we’ll be reviewing the progress journal we’ve kept for the duration of class and evaluating what we want to focus on moving forward, as well as what needs adjustment. We will also work on any last little pieces of work that feel “hard” to write.
Lauren will provide a guided visualization to create a container that supports clarity, confidence, and determination for writers as we do this work together.
GROUP SHARING SCHEDULE
We will meet as a group to share, listen, encourage, and support each other. Class members are asked to bring a piece of writing to share with the group, or a goal or intention to focus on as they make a Personal Pledge to the group (or both!).
Participation is NOT mandatory, but class members are strongly encouraged to move out of their comfort zone and participate, as this is a safe space for sharing and support.
GROUP SHARING SESSION 1: SUNDAY APR 2
3:00 – 4:30 pm EST
GROUP SHARING SESSION 1: SUNDAY APR 16
3:00 – 4:30 pm EST
ASSIGNMENTS
PROGRESS JOURNAL / LOG
PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP
Class members will be asked to choose ONE project to focus on for the duration of the class.
Once class begins, Lauren will ask class members to email her their choice of project as an action step toward commitment to that project.
Class members will also be asked to build their own plan of how they want to work with their writing moving forward, after the program ends.
Lauren will ask class members to email her their plan as an action step toward commitment to their long-term writing goals.
Class members are invited to choose their own form of tracking their progress. A paper notebook, digital journal, or Excel spreadsheet will work (or any other form of log).
Class members are encouraged to begin keeping their log at the beginning of class to keep a consistent record (whether daily or weekly) of their progress.
Logs can be kept private, or emailed to Lauren and/or shared in the Facebook group if class members would like to share their progress.
A private Facebook group will be available to all members of the class, and will remain open indefinitely as a place for class members to connect with each other, form friendships, creatively collaborate, ask questions, and support one another.
Joining the class Facebook group is NOT mandatory.
In-person attendance is not required (but strongly recommended for the Group Sharing sessions).
All class members will receive lifetime access to all Zoom recordings of the class
(including all Directed Writing sessions and Group Sharing sessions).
